6 “in your face” Tips on Licensing Your Art

Licensing is a clever way to get paid for the same piece of art over and over again. This means, you paint it once and it continues to make money for you, even after you’re dead!

PERSONAL EXAMPLE: About 80% of our income comes from licensing Drew’s art. (See Sigg Bottle to your left). The image on the bottle titled “PURE JOY” was painted in 1998 and the original was sold to a collector from LA at an exhibit at The Surf Gallery in 98′. I think we sold that painting for about $500, but we’ve licensed the image for so many different products over the years, it’s earned us approximately $450,000 to date, and continues to be a popular, iconic image.

So, what do you need to do license your art? Click on the “more” link for our 6 tips: (more…)

Juxtapoz Magazine Review of Drew’s DVD - Aug 2008 Issue

Juxtapoz Review of “Paint Pen Techniques with Drew Brophy” DVD - shortened version:

“In terms of instructional DVDs, they don’t get much better than this…….this DVD covers all the basics. It’s easy to follow along……After a few hours honing my technique with Brophy, I may go paint that motorcycle in the parking lot. The rest of the staff won’t mind.”

Continental Screwed us, so we went to Manhattan!

Continental Airlines SUCKS. Big time!

We were flying home Monday from Myrtle Beach. Our first flight was 6 hours late, so we missed our connecting flight to LAX in Newark. Continental guy “Christopher” says “oh, we can’t get you out of Newark until Wednesday!”

And then proceeded to tell us that Continentals “only obligation to us is to get passengers from point A to point B safely” and not to do anything else, like, say, get us a place to sleep?

Oh, but our LUGGAGE made it to LA on Monday. So, we had to wear the same clothes for a few days…..BUT WE MADE THE BEST OF IT IN REGULAR BROPHY STYLE - WE rented a car, drove to Michael Jordan’s house in Rumsen, and spent the next day in N.Y. City! (more…)

A 6 hour workshop just isn’t enough time! People who came had a blast, they learned hands-on from Drew how to fine tune their paint pen techniques. Most of the people are talented, seasoned artists! Read on: (more…)

XTREME SURF EVENT - Myrtle Beach S.C. Aug. 1, 2008

Our last tour stop on the East Coast for 2008! Drew’s tired of painting, so he tricked Al McWhite into showing up and then put him to work!

Al was cool about it, though. Although we haven’t heard from him since…….

Locals hung out for the demo…..Cheddar, the artist (check out his myspace page here), John the grommie surfer musician and Tate, Coastal Carolina new guy and Bonefish Grill worker.

Scott and Deanna Benston took us on this trip. They have these excursions you can sign up for through Surf the Earth. There’s usually a waiting list - now I know why! It’s amazing, the scenery, the wildlife, the experience.

Check out photos - and the SHARK we saw! Click on more: (more…)
